I had set out to make this year’s transition more smooth. I read my notes from last year. I bought the school supplies the minute they hit the stores. I planned the snacks and meals. I had extra copies of their medical records.
Yet, in no time we are flooded. Friends get placed in different classrooms. Kids don’t always get the “nice” teacher. New car pool lane rules defy logic.
You can’t trauma-proof this transition. It is hardwired into the experience.
