Our little giant, PJ, took control of the suppertime table prayer tonight. True to form, he made it all his own. He’s never going to use a stock prayer or a churchy phrase to talk to his Lord. No way.
Even so, he managed to surprise us with his special PJ way of connecting with God in prayer.
He was working through his thanksgiving and it was all very typical. He was saying:
Thanks for leftovers because other people don’t have food and they are hungry.
Thanks for us havin’ a Mom cookin’ for us.
Thanks our Dad not traveling tonight.
Thanks for everything you did for us today.
He wrapped up. We all said, “Amen”.
But, then he added something else….
And good luck to your son, Jesus.
We sat there for a moment. Letting his final words waft over the leftovers of pizza and goulash and chili.
And, then we all started to laugh. We were joyful on this leftover night – as we savored a new way to end our prayers.
