Sonny got to spend a few days at Puptown in Medina while I was getting ready for the garden tour. He has fun while he’s there and I get a break from his constant attention. Plus, the forecast called for more summer thunderstorms. After a recent all-nighter, I knew I needed a break from Sonny in order to get as much sleep as I could before the tour.
Sonny’s stay at Puptown was uneventful except for one evening… Tom decided to play a nature CD for the dogs – really just some white noise for them. It was all going just fine, until the nature CD incorporated the sounds of a thunderstorm. Sonny jumped on the bed and right on top of Tom who needed a few minutes to register the fact that the CD was scaring Sonny. Once Tom could get his arm free, he shut off the music and Sonny settled down.
Getting a little break from Sonny is great self-care for me. It’s also nice for Sonny. He enjoys playing with the other gentler dogs at Puptown. Once we pick him up, I take him to the groomers so he is all clean by the time we bring him home.
Sonny’s favorite spot is riding in the van on errand-runs with all the kids. This is how happy he looked the next morning. He looks ridiculously happy, doesn’t he?
So Sonny is back home. The garden tour was a success and is all wrapped up for next year. I’m off running to grocery stores, dropping kids off at camps, doing various returns… and the whole time my purse is being used as a pillow by a large, ridiculously happy-to-be-home, yellow lab.
