The Babysitter Job Preview

The Job PreviewThe Babysitter or Nanny Job Preview (JP) is the most important tool that you will use to help inform your potential hire about the job.  But that’s not the only reason you should do it.   The JP is a way to establish rapport, gauge character and set your expectations (keep them high) right out of the gate.

The Babysitter Job Preview

The JP is conducted while you are doing your home tour.  You should always schedule the JP separate from the first official time they work.   This way, you can be relaxed instead of rushed to:

  • show them around the house
  • introduce the kids
  • set expectations
  • review house rules
  • ask interview questions
  • share contact information
  • build the calendar (most important)

We will spend the next six Mondays working together to complete your JP guide. This is a document you will give to your prospective nanny or babysitter that is a complete overview of your expectations, a guide to typical tasks & duties, as well as a reference tool for your home.

Until next week, I’d like it if you could think of the last time you forgot to tell your nanny or babysitter something.  What was it?  Did it adversely affect the experience?

This was awesome n so helpful. Using it tomorrow for new nanny first day. Like that you have also built in a scheduled way to continue to bring important things up that forgot. So many times I have thought, ” darn, really want to say this, but it really needed to b said in initial talk or interview”. Thank you for this.
