This week's Quotables post is read aloud in the Quotables Segment included in the Garden News Roundup as part of the Still Growing Gardening Podcast - a weekly Podcast dedicated to helping you + your garden grow.  The Garden News Round Up is a curated group of posts and articles that I have shared over the past week with the listener community and in the Free Facebook Group: the Still Growing Podcast Group.

Grass + Wind

Given that the topic of our show this week was about grasses, I was trying to find some quotes about grasses.

I tell you what: when you look at quotes and your searching just exclusively for the term ‘grass’, not much comes up and the things that do come up aren't exactly the kind of quotes that I'm looking for.

So, I started to think about grass and probably grass’s best friend: the wind. And so when I put those two terms together, grass + wind,  the kind of quotes that I was looking for started popping up like crazy.

Thus, this week's Quotables feature these besties:  grass + wind.

Archibald MacLeish

There is no dusk to be,

There is no dawn that was,

Only there is now,and now,

And the wind in the grass.

William Butler Yeats

I hear the wind a blow

I hear the grass a grow,

and all that I know, I know.

But I will not speak, I will run away.

Catherine Mansfield

Wind moving through grass so that the grass quivers.

This moves me with an emotion I don't even understand.

Rumi

The same wind that uproots trees makes the grass shine.

The lordly wind loves the weakness and the lowness of grasses.

Never brag of being strong.

The axe doesn't worry how thick the branches are.

It cuts them to pieces.

But not the leaves.

It leaves the leaves alone.

Oh sweet wind,

passing over love's grass,

blow in my direction,

for the fragrance of love is my wish.

Confucious

When the wind blows, the grass bends.
